praying effectively: Mastering Our Countenance (Gen.3)

(Genesis 4:3-7)  So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering; but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:  that we master our countenance

Today's prayer:

Wow!  Lord!  I never expected this message from this passage!  Help my "countenance"!!!  Help me to have a better attitude towards others - especially towards those who seemingly are doing better than I am.  Forgive the jealousy or anger that I can feel.

Let me not be effected by the actions of those around me (whether good or bad), but help me concentrate on doing what I should be doing - with the right attitude - in Your love!

When I serve You, and when I give to You of my first-fruits. let it always be with a generous, grateful and thankful heart, desiring to draw closer to You.  Help me to always be thankful!  You bless us so much!!!
