praying effectively: Do Not Take the Lord's Name in Vain (Ex., Deut.)

(Exodus 20:7, Deuteronomy 5:11)
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:  that we do not take the Lord's name in vain

Today's prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, we bless Your Holy name.  Help us treat Your name with great respect, saying any version of Your name only when we are actually speaking to You or speaking about You.

Help all believers become aware of this importance - so that we know - it is not only wrong to exclaim Your name/s in anger, but it is also wrong to exclaim Your name/s flippantly.  And help us to be aware that we are only mocking Your name/s when we "cleverly" change a few letters, or drop a few syllables in order to use it as an expression - like an emoticon.   Help us use words which adequately express what we are actually feeling.  You are not emoticon!!!

Help us reflect You and Your name/s as we should, in reverence, to the world around us.

We ask these things in Your HOLY and very PRECIOUS name.  Amen.
