praying effectively: Be Strong (Ps.27)

(Psalm 27:1-14)
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread?
When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.
Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, ispite of this I shall be confident.
One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.
For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice, and be gracious to me and answer me.
When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, O LordI shall seek.”
Do not hide Your face from me, do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation!
10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.
11 Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path because of my foes.
12 Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence.
13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord; bstrong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:
- that we seek the Lord's face for a personal relationship with Him (27:8)
- that we wait for the Lord (27:14)
- that we are strong and courageous in the Lord (27;14)

Today's prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You so much that we are able to have a personal relationship with You.  You created us for this purpose.  You desire to have a personal relationship with each one of us.  And You made it possible!  All we have to do is seek Your face!

And I never noticed before (or really formulated the fact) that king David never took Your grace for granted (and maybe struggled a tiny bit with the concept of eternal security).  But he would keep reminding You that he was Your child and that he was running to You for shelter and protection - for the eternal as well as the immediate physical shelter and protection.  Thank You for Your faithfulness!!!

And Thank You!!!  Because of Your faithfulness and promises, we can have confidence in You, and we can be strong and courageous in Your strength and hope.  Help me to wait patiently for You.  HUH!!!  It just hit me - and now this phrase makes even more sense!!!  Help me to patiently continue to do as I should - living in Your will - until it is my time to enter into heaven or until Your coming to get us!!!  Help me to remain steadfast in Your will.  Amen.
