praying effectively: Be Humble (1 Samuel 2)

(Deuteronomy 1 Samuel 2:3-10)
“Boast no more so very proudly, do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed.
The bows of the mighty are shattered, but the feeble gird on strength.
“Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry cease to hungerEven the barren gives birth to seven, but she who has many children languishes.
The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
The Lord makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts.
He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with nobles, and inherit a seat of honor; for the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and He set the world on them.
He keeps the feet of His godly ones, but the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; for not by might shall a man prevail.
10 Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered; against them He will thunder in the heavens, the Lord will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:  that we are humble (2:3)

Today's prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank You so much for humbling Yourself - to leave Your heavenly throne in order die on the cross on our behalf - to make salvation possible!  You went to hell on our behalf to save us from having to go there! And You rose again so that anyone who is willing to humble themselves could live with You in eternity

Just as we had to lay down our pride and confess our sins to You when we became believers - help us to remember that everyday we should be as humble as that, if not more.  You are the Savior and the Almighty Lord God!  The King of kings and Lord of lords - who not only deserves our utmost respect - yet still - loves and wants to have a personal relationship with us and help us with all our needs.  May we be humble enough to desire to more like You.  Amen.
