JESUS the King (Ps.2)

We already know that king David was a man after God's own heart, and that David spoke with the LORD on a regular basis.  We also know that David played the harp, so he was musical, and it should not surprise us that he wrote song lyrics - with God-breathed-inspiration.  And I'm sure it flows much better in the original language - Hebrew.

Now, not all the Psalms were written by David, but this one definitely was.  And David refers to Jesus here in Psalm 2 in several ways...
(Psalm 2:1-3)  Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!”
Firstly, notice that "Anointed" is capitalized.  This refers to the Davidic king - who is ultimately Jesus, since through Abraham's descendants would come the One who would bless the nations, and through David's descendants would come the Perfect King to fulfill the Abrahamic covenant.
But still - - - people and governments dare to challenge God???
Just below, in verse 4, the LORD in the original Hebrew is "Adonai" which means "sovereign."
(Psalm 2:4-6)  He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
“But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
Verse 5 refers to after the Tribulation, when Jesus comes to earth again - in His Second Coming - in the Armageddon battle.  There the nations and sinners will be defeated and removed.  Jesus will then lead the people who became believers during the Tribulation into the Millennium to fulfill the covenant as their Perfect King, and sit on the throne in Zion (which is the city of David, see 2 Samuel 5:7).  Apostle Paul sums this up in the following verses...

(Romans 11:25-27)  For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; 26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
The Deliverer will come from ZionHe will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
27 This is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.”
Back to Psalm 2, we see God talking to Jesus...
(Psalm 2:7-9)  “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord:  He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.
‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”
God's Word blows my mind!!!  Apostle Luke sums this up nicely in the book of Acts to explain...

(Acts 13:32-24)  ...we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘You are My Son; today i have begotten You.’ 34 As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’

Back to Psalm 2 again...
(Psalm 2:10-12)  Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;  take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling.
12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled.  How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
Why would we dare to challenge God???  Why would we want to face His wrath, when we can take refuge in Him instead???  Indeed, the message of good news is clear and we have a choice to make!

(Ephesians 1:2-8)  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight.
