JESUS and Light (2 Sam.22)

The song that David spoke continues.  And in it contains another description for Jesus...

(2 Samuel 22:29)  For You are my lamp, O Lord;  And the Lord illumines my darkness..."

When Jesus began His ministry. He spoke quite a few times about lamps, and light.  Lamps represent the light of Jesus that a believer would have inside of them, shining outwardly...

(Luke 11:33-36)  No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. 36 If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.”

As Christians, we should be demonstrating Christ-like behavior and sharing the good news of salvation..

(John 1:1-14)  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.  There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.  There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.  14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Most importantly, Jesus is the Light.  In order for us to shine brighter, we must go the Light source - Jesus.

(John 3:19-21)  This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”

Jesus just came right out and said this to the Pharisees...

(John 8:12)  Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

The Pharisees that challenged Jesus' statement could not "see" their Messiah standing right in front of them.  When we "see" and believe, what impact should that have on us today?

(Ephesians 5:6-10)  Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord...
