JESUS and David (1Sam.11-2Sam.7)

The Israelites got their king, with a stern warning from Samuel...

(1 Samuel 12:20-25)  Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.  21 You must not turn aside, for then you would go after futile things which can not profit or deliver, because they are futile. 22 For the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.  23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way. 24 Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. 25 But if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away.”

It did not take long for king Saul to sin...

(1 Samuel 13:8-`3)  Now he (Saul) waited seven days, according to the appointed time set by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattering from him. So Saul said, “Bring to me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered the burnt offering. 10 As soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him and to greet him. 11 But Samuel said, “What have you done?” And Saul said, “Because I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the appointed days, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash, 12 therefore I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked the favor of the Lord.’ So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering.” 13 Samuel said to Saul, “You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, for now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14 But now your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

The king to replace Saul would be David.  After a lot of politics and drama, where king Saul continually made mistakes, David kept seeking after God's will.  Eventually Saul is killed in battle...

(2 Samuel 5:1-2)  Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. Previously, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and in. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be a ruler over Israel.’”

David was a man after God's own heart.  Not that David was perfect... far from it!  (One of his weaknesses was women.)  But when he sinned, he confessed those sins and reconciled with God.  You will also notice that David was in constant communication with the LORD.  David grew up as a shepherd, and now he would shepherd God's people.  This is a familiar term that is used to describe Jesus. Jesus says in...

(John 10:11)  "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep...:

The prophet Nathan spoke to David after David expressed his desire to build God a permanent temple (tabernacle)...

(2 Samuel 7:11-17) "...The Lord also declares to you that the Lord will make a house for you. 12 When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.  He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, 15 but My lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.”’” 17 In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

David's son, Solomon would build the temple.  But how else could David's throne endure forever except through Jesus, 100% man - 100% God.  Not only did Jesus come from Abraham's line in order to fulfill the covenant, but Jesus came from king David's line in order to be the rightful EARTHLY king of Israel.  This will one day help fulfill the Abrahamic covenant of the land, seed and blessing.  In the Millennium, Jesus the perfect king will take the throne and lead the people in unity according to God's will... therefore having all their land and blessings.  Being 100% God is the only way that Jesus would be "perfect" - without sin - holy.  When Jesus returns to earth - in His Second Coming - He will be the warrior...

(Revelation 19:11-16)  And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Jesus will have the victory at Armageddon, and bring in the Millennium to set up the kingdom of heaven... heaven on earth.  FYI: the armies in fine linen - are us Christians who are taken up at the Rapture!  Be confident and know that we are exempt from the Tribulation, the wrath to come (1Thess.)...  One year I'll pick the topic of eschatology when reading through the Bible.  It is not that difficult to understand.  If you want to check out my notes, you can find those at this link:  http://church-skits.com/indexESCHATOLOGY.html

Meanwhile, in present time - the Church Age - after Jesus had risen from the dead, some of the Jews were already asking Jesus when He was going to take the throne as their King and bring in the kingdom...

(Acts 1:7-8)  So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

What Jesus is saying - DO NOT WORRY about it!  Just do what you are supposed to do... God's will.  Let Jesus be the Shepherd and King of your soul and continually seek after Him.
