today's meditation (Psalm 21) Assessing Our Desires

(Dear Lord Jesus, guide me and give me insight as I read and study Your word, and let it be the meditation of my heart...)

(Psalm 21:1-13) Lord, in Your strength the king will be glad,

     And in Your salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2   You have given him his heart’s desire,
     And You have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3   For You meet him with the blessings of good things;
     You set a crown of pure gold on his head.
4   He asked for life from You,
     You gave it to him,
     Length of days forever and ever.
5   His glory is great through Your salvation,
     Splendor and majesty You place upon him.
6   For You make him most blessed forever;
     You make him joyful with the joy of Your presence.

7   For the king trusts in the Lord,
     And through the faithfulness of the Most High he will not be shaken.
8   Your hand will find all your enemies;
     Your right hand will find those who hate you.
9   You will make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger;
     The Lord will swallow them up in His wrath,
     And fire will devour them.
10 You will eliminate their descendants from the earth,
     And their children from among the sons of mankind.
11 Though they intended evil against You
     And devised a plot,
     They will not succeed.
12 For You will make them turn their back;
     You will take aim at their faces with Your bowstrings.
13 Be exalted, Lord, in Your strength;
     We will sing and praise Your power.

TODAY'S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION:
We should not confuse these promises by seeing God as some great vending machine in the sky.   God fulfilled the desires of David's heart - which was for salvation and eternal life.  God definitely answers this prayer when we ask in sincerity and humility, because God desires that all come to know Him!
David considered his salvation and the Lord's presence in his life to be his greatest blessings and joy.  Another blessing for David was the privilege to praise, exalt and serve the Lord.  He was forever grateful for God's faithfulness, guidance, strength and protection.
Verse 11 shows us that when we are attacked because we are doing God's work, people are really attacking God.  God is well aware!  So when God has a plan and it needs to happen, He will make sure it happens, and He will fight for us.
As God's children, we are part of His plan, so we can trust the Lord with everything!  And when our hearts seek and embrace God, the righteousness of Jesus will lead our desires.  As we assess our desires, and they become aligned with the Lord's, we will see amazing things happen!  And we will experience His blessings of amazing joy!
