eschatology, Lambs Will Graze (Is.5)

Within this "song" found in chapter 5, Isaiah talks about Israel's disobedience leading them into the Tribulation.  Because this song jumps from the Tribulation - to the end of the Tribulation - then back to the Tribulation, I'm going to show you the end of this chapter first, which gives a description of, not only the Tribulation, but those who find themselves going through it...
 (Isaiah 5:18-30)  Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood,
And sin as if with cart ropes;
19 Who say, “Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it;
And let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw near
And come to pass, that we may know it!”
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
And clever in their own sight!
22 Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine
And valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23 Who justify the wicked for a bribe,
And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!
24 Thereforeas a tongue of fire consumes stubble
And dry grass collapses into the flame,
So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust;
For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts
And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 On this account the anger of the Lord has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down.
And the mountains quaked, and their corpses lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.
For all this His anger is not spent,
But His hand is still stretched out.
26 He will also lift up a standard to the distant nation,
And will whistle for it from the ends of the earth;
And behold, it will come with speed swiftly.
27 No one in it is weary or stumbles,
None slumbers or sleeps;
Nor is the belt at its waist undone,
Nor its sandal strap broken.
28 Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent;
The hoofs of its horses seem like flint and its chariot wheels like a whirlwind.
29 Its roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions;
It growls as it seizes the prey
And carries it off with no one to deliver it.
30 And it will growl over it in that day like the roaring of the sea.
If one looks to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress;
Even the light is darkened by its clouds.

(Isaiah 5:13)  Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge;  And their honorable men are famished,
And their multitude is parched with thirst.

This middle portion of this chapter's "song" describes the end of the Tribulation, when the judgment of nations takes place (where "the sheep are separated from the goats"):  the sinners are removed and cast into hell;  while those who became believers during the Tribulation enter the Millennium...

 (Isaiah 5:14-17)  Therefore Sheol has enlarged its throat and opened its mouth without measure;
And Jerusalem’s splendor, her multitude, her din of revelry and the jubilant within her, descend into it.
15 So the common man will be humbled and the man of importance abased,
The eyes of the proud also will be abased.
16 But the Lord of hosts will be exalted in judgment,
And the holy God will show Himself holy in righteousness.
17 Then the lambs will graze as in their pasture,
And strangers will eat in the waste places of the wealthy.

Today's takeaway:  I saw a news clip the other day that gave a report on an interesting discovery - that sheep are able to facially recognize their masters!  At first the scientists did experiments with a group of sheep, rewarding them with food every time they chose a certain photo.  After a while, they then projected two different photos, and realized that the sheep were very consistent in choosing the correct photo, even if they later showed a photo of the same person shot at a different angle.  THEN they decided to take a fresh group of sheep, right off the field, and show them a photo of their actual masters next to a photo of a similar looking person.  The sheep always immediately went straight to their master's photo!!!  huh!  Well, even more interesting than that - GOD already knew this....

(John 10:14-18)  I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. 18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”

(John 10:1-5)  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.”

(John 10:24-29)  The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense?  If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.  26 But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

Jesus is the Good Shepherd!  Knowing God is to recognize Jesus as our Master - and we should always just want to run straight to Him!!!...

(Psalm 23:1-6)  The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
