eschatology, the Branch of Jesse (Is.10-12)

Chapter 10 of Isaiah specificaly describes something that would soon happened back then (between the fall of Nineveh in 612 BC and the battle of Carchemish in 605 BC, when God used the Assyrians to punish the Israelites),  Although this chapter could be seen as two-fold, as it uses the term "in that day" and SEEMS to apply to the Tribulation.

Interestingly, this then leads right into a description of Jesus and the Millennium (in chapter 11).  After the "tree of David is felled" - meaning - there isn't a descendant of David sitting on the throne but the roots are still there, Jesus will come again at the end of the Tribulation to then sit on the throne for the thousand year reign...

(Isaiah 11:1-2)  Thenshoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
And branch from his roots will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

Isaiah describes the Millennium first and then describes the Armageddon battle, so I will show you the verses in event order.  When the Israelites see the signs (the judgments during the Tribulation), they will realize that Jesus was and is their Messiah, they will then believe, and take a stand and look for His return...

 (Isaiah 11:11-16)  Then it will happen on that day that the Lord
Will again recover the second time with His hand
The remnant of His people, who will remain,
From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath,
And from the islands of the sea.
12 And He will lift up a standard for the nations
And assemble the banished ones of Israel,
And will gather the dispersed of Judah
From the four corners of the earth.
13 Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart,
And those who harass Judah will be cut off;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
And Judah will not harass Ephraim.
14 They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west;
Together they will plunder the sons of the east;
They will possess Edom and Moab,
And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.
15 And the Lord will utterly destroy
The tongue of the Sea of Egypt;
And He will wave His hand over the River
With His scorching wind;
And He will strike it into seven streams
And make men walk over dry-shod.
16 And there will be a highway from Assyria
For the remnant of His people who will be left,
Just as there was for Israel
In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

And now for the beautiful description of Jesus and the Millennium.  It will be very much like the Garden of Eden, except for the fact that people still have and are born with a sin-nature, but because Jesus is right there ruling the nations, there will be peace.  The people entering the Millennium are the ones who became believers during the Tribulation.  During the Millennium, there will be many children being born, and they will have to make a personal decision to believe in Jesus...

 (Isaiah 11:2-10)  The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,
The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The spirit of counsel and strength,
The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,
And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;
But with righteousness He will judge the poor,
And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth;
And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.
Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins,
And faithfulness the belt about His waist.
And the wolf will dwell with the lamb,
And the leopard will lie down with the young goat,
And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little boy will lead them.
Also the cow and the bear will graze,
Their young will lie down together,
And the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.
They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.
10 Then in that day
The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;
And His resting place will be glorious.
Today's takeaway:  Of course, the branch of Jesse is also the root of Jesse!  We can only get to God, because of God, and through God!  Jesus is the answer!!!  Chapter 12 is a hymn of praise that people will sing in the Millennium - - - which we can "sing" because of the personal salvation that we are able to experience right now...

 (Isaiah 12:1-6)  Then you will say on that day,
I will give thanks to You, O Lord;
For although You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.
“Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
For the Lord God is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.”
Therefore you will joyously draw water
From the springs of salvation.
And in that day you will say,
Give thanks to the Lord, call on His name.
Make known His deeds among the peoples;
Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
Praise the Lord in song, for He has done excellent things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.
Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
