JESUS' First & Second Coming (Is.8-9)

Isaiah receives another message from the LORD after the land of Judah had rejected God's help...

(Isaiah 8:6-7a)  “Inasmuch as these people have rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoice in Rezin and the son of Remaliah;
Now therefore, behold, the Lord is about to bring on them the strong and abundant waters of the Euphrates..."

God likens His help to the "gently flowing waters of Shiloah" (which was a healing spring in Jerusalem).  And because the people rejected Gods healing help - He was going to use a fairly deep flood to bring death and destruction to the land of Assyria and Judah.  YET, God still always desires that we look to Him to be saved!  So right after God describes the punishment that is coming, God adds a message of what to do for the people who will choose God...
(Isaiah 8:9-11)  “Be broken, O peoples, and be shattered;
And give ear, all remote places of the earth...  10  ...For God is with us.”  11  For thus the Lord spoke to me with mighty power and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people..."
After God has given Isaiah the entire message, this is (part of) Isaiah's response...

(Isaiah 8:16-19)  Bind up the testimony, seal the aw among my disciples. 17 And I will wait for the Lord who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; I will even look eagerly for Him. 18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.  19 When they say to you, “Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,” should not a people consult their God?  Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?
Isaiah doesn't mind how long it takes for God to answer.  No matter what, Isaiah knows to wait on the LORD and obey Him - NOT to consult mediums and spiritists, etc. - but rather consult the living God who is all-powerful.  God's words will stand the test of time.  Because God is all-knowing, the prophecies from God are truth and become reality.  Within Isaiah's response are a few prophecies of Jesus...

(Isaiah 9:1-2)  But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.  The people who walk in darkness will see a great lightThose who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.

We see this prophecy being fulfilled later...

(Matthew 4:12-16)  Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; 13 and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.  14 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet:  15  The land of Zebulun and the land of NaphtaliBy the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—  16  The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great LightAnd those who were sitting in the land and shadow of deathUpon them a Light dawned.”

As well, Isaiah gave another prophecy...

(Isaiah 9:6)  For child will be born to us, son will be given to us;  And the government will rest on His shoulders;  And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,  Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

We know this prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus came to earth the first time as 100% God and in flesh as 100% man...

(Luke 2:10-11)  ...the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord..."

Isaiah followed that with another prophecy which is still to happen...

(Isaiah 9:7)  There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

This is referring to Jesus's Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation to fulfill the Abrahamic covenant - when He sits on the throne during the Millennium.  This prophecy was repeated when the angel gave Mary the news...

(Luke 1:31-33)  "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; 33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.

Jesus is the light.  When we choose to abide in His Light, Jesus is our salvation.

(1 John 2:1-11)  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. 10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
