(Dear Lord Jesus, guide me and give me insight as I read and study Your word, and let it be the meditation of my heart...)
(Psalm 1:1-6)
1 Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.
TODAY'S THOUGHTS AND MEDITATION:
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
Unbelievers do not know or understand "the way of the righteous". Their thinking is in essence the complete opposite of what God teaches us in His word; so why would we even entertain the idea of seeking counsel from the world? Let alone be part of their plans and shenanigans? Or even just put ourselves in a position where we could be swept up in their path of destruction?
I just remembered this, and it makes a great analogy! In our living room, I had some kind of plant which was struggling. Not just struggling - it was a pathetic eyesore. I was about ready to toss it out, so for the meantime, I moved it to the other side of the room to a less prominent place. The funny thing is, the sun shone into that entire room the exact same way, yet for whatever reason, that plant started to grow like crazy. In a couple of months, it went from 3 leaves which were about 2 feet high - to a full and lush 6 foot tree.
In the same way, standing in a different path - on the good path - can make such a huge difference in our lives! To be around good friends who are well-grounded in the Lord will provide sound advice. To embrace biblical wisdom and guidance will provide nourishment. To seek out God and His will, and keep these in mind as we go through life, will help us to flourish!
