eschatology, Jesus Heals (Mt.8,11, Lk.4, Jhn.5)

Performing miracles was critical to Jesus' ministry, which is key to eschatology.  First, this demonstrated God's power - and demonstrated that Jesus is God...

(John 5:36)  But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.

 Performing miracles fulfilled prophecies!...

(Matthew 8:16b-17)  ...He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “He Himself took our infirmities and carried away our diseases.”

(Luke 4:16-21)  And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. 17 And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon MeBecause He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.  He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captivesAnd recovery of sight to the blindTo set free those who are oppressed,
19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

And performing miracles echoed the descriptions of the Millennium, which proved that Jesus was the Messiah - ready to fulfill all of the Israelites' covenants...

(Luke 4:38-43)  Then He got up and left the synagogue, and entered Simon’s home. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him to help her. 39 And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediately got up and waited on them.
40 While the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. 41 Demons also were coming out of many, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.
42 When day came, Jesus left and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were searching for Him, and came to Him and tried to keep Him from going away from them. 43 But He said to them, I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.”

(Matthew 11:2-6)  Now when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: the blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.”

Today's takeaway:  even though Jesus performed all those miracles, so many people still rejected Him.  People today still reject Jesus.  And even when we do believe in Jesus - we tend to underestimate His power, or forget altogether that we have access to the greatest resources EVER...

(2 Corinthians 12:9-10)  And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

(Philippians 4:13)  I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
