Because God loves us so much and desires for us to love Him and want Him as our Heavenly Father, God created man and woman and gave them free will. What would love be without a free will? And what would free will be without a decision point?...
(Genesis 2:15-17) Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. 16 The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”
My personal takeaway is - at creation - man HAD God! The decision was, did mankind want to keep God in their lives? To chose a life without God would be to choose the TREE of the knowledge of good and evil. Now - because of Adam and Eve's choice - we all are born into a life separated from God. So now the decision is, do we want God in our lives? To choose a life with God, we must choose the TREE of salvation - the cross!!! Jesus' work on the cross!!!
This week, I just read the last chapter of Revelation, and in that we see again the TREE of life. This tree was there at creation as well, and Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from that tree. God loved mankind so much that when Adam and Eve sinned, He banned them from the Garden of Eden - because in their fallen, sinful state, if they had eaten from the tree of life while in that state - there would have been no hope. In heaven, all of us there - will have chosen to believe in Jesus and the work that He did on the cross - and we will be allowed to eat from this tree of life...
(Revelation 22:1-5, 14) Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever... Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.
