praying effectively: Do Not Love the World (1John 2:12-17)

(1 John 2:12-17)  I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

15 Do not love the world nor the things in the worldIf anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:
- that we do not love the world or worldly things (2:15)
- that we do God's will (2:17)

Today's prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for Your saving, unconditional love and strength.  Help us to stay focused on You, so that the allure of the world will not distract us.  May we see beyond the earthly things and understand the true value of Your heavenly realm.  Guide us in living out Your will so that we will be an effective testimony of the gospel message.  All to Your glory, amen.
