eschatology, Sixth Trumpet: Second Woe (Rev.9:13-21)

An angel blows the sixth trumpet, which is the second woe:  the satanic soldiers!!!  Once again, the verses below gives a fairly thorough description!  Although it does not say specifically if these will kill only unbelievers - we could assume so because of the first woe's restrictions, and from what the last few verses below say about the unrepentant ones...

(Revelation 9:13-21)  Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind. 16 The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. 17 And this is how I saw in the vision the horses and those who sat on them: the riders had breastplates the color of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceed fire and smoke and brimstone. 18 third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which proceeded out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads, and with them they do harm.
20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; 21 and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.

Today's takeaway:  pride definitely gets in our own way.  When we are too proud to admit we are wrong - not only do we hurt those around us - but we hurt ourselves.  The case above - which is unrepentant souls - has the most extreme consequences.  For believers, we will not go to hell and suffer for all eternity, but we will have to deal with the consequences of our own actions here on earth.  It is not a good testimony.  Although realizing our mistakes and confessing them (apologizing for them) not only helps our quality of life, but THAT change in attitude becomes a good testimony...

(Proverbs 11:2) When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.

(Proverbs 16:18)  Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.

(Proverbs 8:13)  The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;  pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth, I hate."

(Proverbs 16:5-6)  Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord;  assuredly, he will not be unpunished.  By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one keeps away from evil.

(Philippians 2:1-16)  Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselvesdo not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
