eschatology, Jesus is King (Ps.2)

We have reached the Psalms, which were written in David's time; but of course, these were and still are very relevant and applicable.  This psalm was written by David, (as most of them were) and partially applies to him, but ultimately applies to Jesus Christ as King, now in heaven and one day He will come again and sit on David's throne in Zion (which is a hill in Jerusalem) - during the Millennium.  But notice the first highlighted section says "I have installed My King"... past tense and uppercase.  Jesus' work on the cross was retroactive.  As well, Jesus is part of the Trinity.  Jesus is God!  And David was fully aware of this...

(Psalm 2:1-12)  Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
“I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”
10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the Lord with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Today's takeaway:  When Jesus comes again, it will be at the end of the Tribulation for the battle of Armageddon.  That is when the nations will be shattered like earthenware.  It's so amazing that people think they can challenge God.  As it says in the beginning of this psalm - it is completely laughable.  And then the last line of this psalm "How blessed are ALL who take refuge in Him!"  ALL ! ! !  ANYONE who goes to God for refuge will be blessed!  How quickly we want revenge towards our enemies, yet we are told to love them.  Even in this psalm, David is letting everyone know - take refuge in Jesus!!!...

(2 Peter 3:8-9)  But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
