praying effectively: Pray For All People (1Tim. 2:1-8)

(1 Timothy 2:1-8)  First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

Reminder:  "praying effectively" involves knowing God's will.  When we pray in His will (in His name), He may choose to not answer those prayers in the time period that we would like, or HOW we would like - but He will answer those prayers!

It is God's will:
- that all people be saved and come to the knowledge of truth (2:4)
- that we lift up everyone in the world, with prayers, entreaties, petitions and thanksgiving (2:1)
- that we pray for all world leaders, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives, in all godliness and dignity (2:2)
- that when when we pray, we are above approach, with the right motives, not with motives of dissension or hateful anger (2:8)

Today's prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for loving all of us, and paying the price for every sin - for all people.  May we share Your love with everyone around us, without prejudice, so that Your love and the knowledge of Your truth spreads throughout the entire world.

Convict and guide the hearts of all world leaders and those in power.  Protect us from evil, so that we may have tranquil and quiet lives, and the freedom to worship opening.  Protect the persecuted church.  Help all believers to remain steadfast as a testimony to even our enemies.  Please bring about peace, especially in corrupt and war-torn lands.  All to Your glory, amen.
