Two angels were used to deliver this message to Zechariah, as an introduction.
Then the Lord finished the vision with a compelling declaration of hope...
(Zechariah 2:1-13) Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 So I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it is.” 3 And behold, the angel who was speaking with me was going out, and another angel was coming out to meet him, 4 and said to him, “Run, speak to that young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the multitude of men and cattle within it. 5 For I,’ declares the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”
6 “Ho there! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the Lord, “for I have dispersed you as the four winds of the heavens,” declares the Lord. 7 “Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the daughter of Babylon.” 8 For thus says the Lord of hosts, “After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. 9 For behold, I will wave My hand over them so that they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me. 10 Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” declares the Lord. 11 “Many nations will join themselves to the Lord in that day and will become My people. Then I will dwell in your midst, and you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. 12 The Lord will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.
13 “Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord; for He is aroused from His holy habitation.”
From this we see:
- angels can measure, be surveyors (2:1-2)
- angels can hold conversations (2:3-5)
Personal experience: God wants to bless us. Sometimes we do not get what we ask for, but there will be times when we will get an earthly reward - an answer to prayer that we never prayed. If that makes sense?
Recently a few good things have happened - something that we had hoped for, but never prayed for - and then there it was.
For instance, my husband had been lamenting the fact that he was away from home too much. Even when I am allowed to travel with him - we are still away from home. But work is work, and one goes where the company asks. Well, the strangest thing happened, which forced him to temporarily work from home. At first it seemed like a wrench in the works, but it didn't take long to realize that this was a real blessing! In more ways than one!
God provides! God will always give us what we need. And sometimes He gives us what we want.
Today's takeaway: I cannot help but be thankful, and I have to remember to thank God for every good thing that we do have...
(James 1:17) Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
(Psalm 106:1-3) Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the Lord, or can show forth all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who keep justice, who practice righteousness at all times!
