eschatology, the Day of His Coming (Mal,1-4)

Hm, do the statements in the scripture below sound at all familiar?  We see this a lot in today's society, where people brag about their sins and the crimes they commit.  Or they are celebrated for their sins, and in their sinfulness they're told - "You're not a sinner! - God loves you! - so therefore - you're good!!!"  And then people dare ask, "If there's a God, why is there suffering? - Where is the justice?"...

(Malachi 2:17)  You have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you say, “How have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and He delights in them,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”

Well, since people asked and ask, "Where is God?" - God gave the people a prophecy that their Messiah was going to arrive soon.  And the start of Jesus' ministry would be announced by John the Baptist ("Elijah" / My messenger).  If the Israelites had carefully listened to the following words, they would have recognized John the Baptist and would have taken his message and his announcement of Jesus'a arrival seriously!...

(Malachi 4:5)  “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.”

(Malachi 3:1)  Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts.

The verses above are twofold prophecies.  Jesus came the first time and the Israelites rejected Him, so Jesus will be coming again at the end of the Tribulation...

(Malachi 3:2-4)  “But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord offerings in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years.

After the battle of Armageddon, Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats (which is called the Judgment of Nations), and evil will be removed from the earth.  This judgment will not take long...

(Malachi 3:5-6)  “Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says the Lord of hosts. “For I, the Lorddo not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed..."

And all unbelievers will be removed from the earth...

(Malachi 4:1)  “For behold, the day is coming, burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the Lord of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

All of those who have become believers during the Tribulation will enter the Millennium...

(Malachi 4:2)  “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts.

The people who are believers, will have their names written in the book of life.  Just like anyone else who becomes a believer (a Christian), we will escape judgment and have eternal life in heaven...

(Malachi 3:16-18)  Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name. 17 “They will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” 18 So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.

Today's takeaway:  we cannot earn our way to heaven, but through faith we are saved.  As children of God, we will resemble our Parent, much like how it is with our earthly parents.  Therefore, we will have God's love - so - we will want to serve God by serving others;  we will want to love and serve our fellow believers who are our brothers and sisters in Christ;  and we will want to love and serve our neighbors who are the unbelievers who cross our paths...

(James 2:1-20)  My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
14 What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
18 But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” 19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
