JESUS, Our Advocate (1 John 2)

Jesus is God's "name's sake" - named after God because He is the Son, therefore verse 2 is speaking about Jesus.  Jesus has been from the beginning, and as we see in John 1:1, 14 - "the word was God"... and "the word was made flesh" = Jesus...

(1 John 2:1-2, 12-14)  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world...  12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Because Jesus and God are one and the same, we cannot have God without Jesus - They are a package deal!...

(1 John 2:21-24)  I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.  24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
